Term 1
Baseline assessment
Students will be assessed in various discipline to establish their current level and end of year target. The skills assessed will be drawing, 3D design, artist analysis and response to the work of others.
Term 2
Abstraction and identity
Cross curricular link with science. Students will in science be focusing on the complexities of humans and plant cells. In art, students will have the opportunity to build on prior knowledge to develop personal interpretations of cells using drawing and other means. They will be introduced to artists who have explored abstraction using primarily science as their source of inspiration. Students will make use of their prior knowledge on magnification to scale up cells and explore colour and media to develop personal interpretation of cells cultivated from their own bodies.
Term 3
Textile sculptures
Students will focus on a variety of textile artists and develop textile outcomes based on the 2D responses of term 2. They will explore the visual qualities as well as tactile qualities of a range of materials and be introduced to sewing and embroidery techniques.
